I have always had a deep seated passion for Swansea and it's local history, over the years I have read, listened as well as been helped, supported, and gathered a great deal of information. This data can be a valuable resource, for interested people of the Swansea suburb of Fforestfach and surrounding areas. I started by centering the information on Fforestfach, but soon found that wasn’t so easy, as a great deal of information overlapped with boarding areas. To simplify the idea, I decided to broaden my site, by covering the areas of: Cadle, Caereithin, Cwmbwrla, Cockett and Gendros which border Fforestfach.
I have made the http://www.fforestfachhistory.com website from scratch, as a final project of my HNC in Digital Interactive Media, this meant learning the code: HTML, CSS… Many applications were leant such as Adobe Dreamweaver, Photoshop, and Flash… I’m still learning. The website costs money each year and I’ve devoted many hundreds of hours to the site. In my mind the ongoing building and updating wouldn’t be worth it without the most important factor, the support of contributors and feedback from many people, which makes this project worthwhile. The Website has grown in width and depth, with the addition of flickr (photo management site add on), YouTube (video sharing add on) and Twitter (online social networking service). I have currently decided to stop using Twitter as I felt it did'nt blend well with the site or the forum.
Towards the end of 2011, after listening to the much needed and appreciated contributors of the site. I decided for ease of use, along with idea of keeping people returning to the site for further updates, to create a blog (blend of web-log). The http://www.fforestfachhistory.wordpress.com/ address, (a personal publishing platform for creating singular items - photos with information), ideally published once a month! Various contacts have asked me for a forum (message board), to create viewable interactive information for many people to contribute in their own way. I have since ceased using wordpress as a blog, instead focusing my efforts on fforestfachhistory.com and the forum.
Please do not post inappropriate, offensive, messages or links which are not in-keeping with this local history site. Above all be respectful to all. fforestfachhistory.com.
The reason for writing this information is not for blowing my own trumpet or trying to be pretentious, only to give a reasonable understanding and a basic overview of the website with its additions.
Thank you to all the contributors so far who helped to make this website successful! I look forward to lots of new contributors in the future.
